Program Description
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences is designed for individuals who hold a health-related associate degree the opportunity to complete a baccalaureate degree or individuals with transfer credit in other disciplines that want to advance in the health field or to continue to graduate studies. This comprehensive program helps students develop careers in health & wellness and disease prevention within multiple health systems located within various communities. Students will understand how a variety of factors impact health (e.g. social, cultural, behavior & epidemiological principles). This program develops communication skills for health education & promotion, ethical decision making, and strategic leadership for improving health care quality.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of their program, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate mindfulness, respect, and flexibility for sociocultural diversity in a progressive health care environment.
- Collaborate across disciplines to address complex health care issues including but not limited to advancing health care, wellness, and disease prevention.
- Incorporate effective and professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills into daily practice.
- Create evidence-based, theory-informed decisions for dynamic situations within complex health care systems.
- Manage people and organizational resources efficiently to accomplish goals.
- Formulate effective, stakeholder-informed prevention and health promotion strategies to advance community health outcomes.
- Debate ethical dilemmas specific to the provision of health care and determine actions based on sound ethical decision making.

Program Content
A minimum of 120 semester credit hours is required for graduation.

All courses, 32.00 semester credit hours, are required.
Healthcare Electives
A minimum of 28.00 semester credit hours is required. Students may choose from the list of available electives below in healthcare administration, healthcare leadership, and science courses, in addition to the required courses listed above. Transfer students are permitted to fulfill all or part of the healthcare electives with healthcare coursework taken at other institutions in accordance with Herzing University’s Transfer Credit Policy outlined in the catalog. A minimum of 22.00 semester credit hours is required.
Required Courses in General Education
Students enrolled in this bachelor’s degree must complete a minimum of 36.00 semester credit hours in general education distributed among the following disciplines. Refer to the General Education section of the catalog for specific information about courses within each discipline.

Transfer students may transfer courses that are within 1.00 semester credit hour of the courses listed above to meet these discipline requirements. Any resulting deficiency in the total of 36.00 semester credit hours required in general education may be made up with general education electives from any of the listed disciplines.
