NU 217 - Gerontological Nursing^ This course provides an opportunity to explore healthcare needs and issues in gerontological nursing. Healthy aging processes and the risk factors that affect the health and functioning of older adults will be explored as well as nursing approaches to managing those needs and risks. Students will have the opportunity to provide care to older adults in community and home settings. The student will design care and implement a project during this experience. Ethical, legal, and economic issues will be addressed. Semester Credit Hours: 4.00 Contact Hours: 45/0/45/90 Prerequisites: NU 209 Health Assessment | NU 209L Health Assessment Lab and NU 211 Introduction to Clinical Nursing^ (must be successfully completed prior to NU 217 or taken concurrently with NU 217).
