DH 410 - Diverse Needs in Patient Populations This course focuses on dental hygiene care for individuals who are medically compromised with disease(s) and/or mental or physical disabilities. Students will learn diseases and how to manage the appointment and dental treatment involving the cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, endocrine, and neurologic systems. Students will also be introduced to autoimmune, hematologic, and oncologic diseases as well as behavioral and psychiatric disorders. Students will learn the various life stages, from infant to elderly, and the dental considerations for treatment in each stage. Semester Credit Hours: 2.00 Contact Hours: 30/0/0/30 Prerequisites: DH 284 Community Dental Health , DH 299C Dental Hygiene Clinical Practice I , DH 302 Periodontology I , DH 320 Clinical Theory and Scientific Basis , DH 320L Clinical Theory and Scientific Basis Laboratory , DH 329 Pain Management , and DH 329L Pain Management Lab . Corequisite: None.
