MSW 620 - Psychosocial Assessment and Clinical Diagnosis

This course focuses on understanding psychopathology, behavioral health assessment, and diagnosis across the lifespan using the DSM-5 TR. Symptoms, risk factors, protective factors and interventions are explored. The process of psychosocial assessment, use of screening tools including: mental status exams, depression and anxiety screening tools, and differential diagnosis are covered. Additional emphasis on trauma, diversity and emphasis on how social work must use empowerment practice with medical model diagnosis as a tool for psychosocial assessment of clients’ needs and goals.  Semester Credit Hours: 3.00 Contact Hours: 45/0/0/45 Prerequisites: Advanced standing or completion of all 500 level MSW courses.  Corequisites: None.
