Program Description
This surgical technology program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to function in the operating room or as an important member of the surgical team along with surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel to ensure proper surgical care before, during, and after a surgical procedure. Each student will be prepared for entry-level surgical technology positions in the operating room or surgical setting.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Perform expanded entry level functions in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative case management
- Articulate the role and responsibility of a patient focused surgical technologist.
- Communicate and interact effectively within the surgical environment.
- Describe the use of surgical technology including robotics, lasers, and laparoscopic devices.

Potential Occupational Titles for this program include, but are not limited to, surgical technologist.
Program Delivery
The Surgical Technology program is delivered in a hybrid format. Students are required to take the Support Courses and General Education Courses online. Additional Surgical Technology courses may be offered in an online format. Courses delivered online are denoted below with a hashtag (#).
Disclosure Notification
Students are required to provide their physical location at the time of enrollment by providing the information on the Admissions Application. Students are required to immediately notify Herzing University of a change to their physical location by providing written notification to Student Services.
Program approvals vary by location. If a student relocates to a state in which the institution does not have approval to operate it may adversely impact the student’s ability to complete the program.
Program Content
A minimum of 65.00 semester credit hours is required for graduation.
