Program Description
This is a selective admission, limited-enrollment program that prepares students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry-level positions as a radiologic technologist in a clinic or hospital setting. The courses are progressive, with successive courses building on preceding courses. The successful completion of each course, in sequence with a program GPA of 2.50 and higher, is required. Students will learn the theory and principles of radiation production, radiographic techniques, and the fundamentals of patient care through the combination of lectures, textbooks, slides, videos, hand-outs, practice in the on-campus lab, and actual clinical participation. Students completing the program will be eligible to take the national registry exam offered by the ARRT and the state licensure exam.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
1. Facilitate patient care and education in compliance with ASRT practice standards and within the ASRT scope of practice during radiographic procedures.
2. Demonstrate proper communication using appropriate medical and radiographic terminology in the healthcare setting.
3. Explain the fundamental principles of radiation, x-ray production, and radiation interaction with matter.
4. Formulate appropriate radiographic procedures, projections, and adjustments, as needed to demonstrate anatomical structures and pathology and as indicated by patient condition.
5. Adapt basic principles of radiation safety for radiographers, patients, and the public.
6. Perform radiographic procedures as appropriate for an entry level radiographer, including proper patient positioning, use of contrast media, image production, and image analysis.
7. Demonstrate proper and safe usage of radiographic equipment.
Program Content
A minimum of 76.00 semester credit hours is required for graduation.
