Herzing University is approved to offer programs in an online learning modality through association with the main campus in Madison, Wisconsin.

This is an RN to BSN to MSN pathway, designed for students who have their RN license and wish to first obtain their BSN. Then, after completing their BSN degree program, they choose to then obtain their MSN in the MSN degree program at Herzing. RN-BSN-MSN is not a full program option, but rather, a pathway obtained through two different degree programs (RN to BSN and then BSN to MSN).

Program Description

The RN-BSN-MSN Online Option is designed for the licensed Registered Nurse (RN) that is looking to advance his/her education and career to the master’s level. This option will prepare the RN with valuable knowledge and skills to lead change, promote health, and elevate care in various roles and settings (AACN, Master’s Essentials, 2011).

This option is open to licensed, registered nurses who have completed an associate degree in nursing or a diploma in nursing from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university. RN’s must hold a current, active, unencumbered RN license in the U.S. or from a jurisdiction that is an associate member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

Students will first complete the requirements outlined in the RN to BSN program following the dual credit option, which awards up to 12 semester credits of graduate level coursework. Upon being awarded their BSN degree, if qualified based upon admissions requirements, students will matriculate directly into the MSN program. Students will select an MSN specialty concentration, in Nursing Education, Nursing Leadership and Administration, or Family Nurse Practitioner, and continue courses to complete the MSN degree.

The RN-BSN-MSN Online Option can be customized to meet the student’s needs, either full-time or part-time. Classes are offered in the 8-week online format. Experiential learning activities are included to enhance the opportunity for RN’s to apply both theoretical knowledge with experiences from their current nursing role.

Third Party Testing

Assessment and remediation are critical components of nursing education. Students in the nursing program may be required to take third-party, standardized exams in an electronic format throughout the curriculum. These standardized tests are valid and reliable predictors of success on the NCLEX examination and provide valuable feedback concerning student strengths and weaknesses. Student learning outcome data identifies content areas that require remediation, allowing faculty to personalize student support and intervention. Courses that utilize third-party exams will incorporate the points earned on the test as a percentage of the final grade earned for the course as specified in the course syllabus.
